The Trans Bhutan Trail is one of the world’s great long-distance walking routes, rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. For centuries it was travelled by monks, traders, pilgrims, and messengers. Today, this ancient east–west route stretches over 400 kilometres across Bhutan, linking remote villages, high mountain passes, lush valleys, and sacred sites. Recently revitalised, the trail offers travellers a rare chance to experience Bhutan as its ancestors once did—on foot, in harmony with the land.
Along the way, trekkers encounter breathtaking Himalayan vistas, welcoming communities, serene forests, and magnificent monasteries and fortresses that embody Bhutan’s spiritual and cultural heartland. It is a journey where adventure and cultural immersion meet, making every step deeply meaningful.
While the full expedition can take more than a month, the Trans Bhutan Trail can also be experienced in shorter sections. Travellers may explore just a few days or a week, enjoying the highlights while still appreciating the trail’s beauty and cultural significance. Whether walking a single stage or undertaking the complete east–west crossing, the Trans Bhutan Trail offers an unforgettable journey through the very soul of Bhutan.
